Lindfield enjoyed a good win at Tunbridge Wells, only losing on one rink. The game was played in the best of spirits, and the match meal afterwards was excellent -
many thanks to Tunbridge Wells for their hospitality.
Here's an early present from Santa - If you are under 60 and are working, then your membership of Lindfield Bowls Club has just got a LOT cheaper. From next season onwards,
all playing members will pay the same, irrespective of their age or their working status. This means that working under-60's can enjoy a saving
of £58 over last year's prices - a welcome boost in these tough times.
The prices for joining are now £30 to Lindfield Bowls Club, and £58 to the Mid-Sussex District Council for your annual season ticket
(which also entitles you to roll up at Haywards Heath Bowls Club), which brings us in line with the average fees for other clubs in the area.
Lindfield reclaimed the John Elmer cup against Buxted Park following a keenly contested match at Lindfield on Sunday. Adam Harding picked up
the first point in the singles thanks to a 21-11 win against Norman Stokes and in the pair's Steven Bollschweiller and Ian Watson pulled away
from 10-10 at 10 ends to defeat John Dellar and Clive Wratten 26-21. Buxted claimed the double fours with convincing wins on both rinks and
after the triples ended all square the Buxted trio won the extra end to level the overall match score. In the fours Norman Sugarhood, David
Glossop, Derek Heather and Chris Reynolds raced away to a 12-1 lead against Neil Parrington but they got pegged back to 15-14 before finishing
strongly to register a 20-15 victory and earn Lindfield a 3-2 win in the tie.
On Friday the social committee organised a floodlit bowling
evening with teams playing two games of 7 ends. Ronnie Leaney, Margaret Atkins and Ian Watson won both their games with a superior shot
difference to claim the winning prize. In the "Elsie and George Long" Australian pairs competition Steven and Willy Bollschweiller, Peter
Treagus and Terry Hughes emerged as the winners after the final round of matches were completed last Thursday.
Pat Whetstone hosted her first club President's Day at Lindfield on Sunday and thankfully the weather was kind and enabled a full afternoon
of bowling. Club members were divided in to 12 teams with each team playing two games of 12 ends and after all the adding up had been completed
at the end of play the winners were Alan Price, Irene Cambers, Ron Langridge and Peter Colbourne.
Afterwards everyone enjoyed a splendid selection of food and thanks to go Pat and her selection of helpers for all their hard work.

Singles: Adam Harding
Pair: Steven Bollschweiler & Ian Watson

The match starts at 09:30 at Lindfield.
Sue Paterson clinched her first club championship at Lindfield with a nail-biting 21-19 win against Carol Watson. With the scores locked at
19-19 Sue held her nerve to draw the two shots she needed to seal the win. In the men's championship Adam Harding successfully defended his
title by overcoming his county pairs partner Keith Holman 21-13.
The club's youngest member Steven Bollschweiler put on an impressive display on his way to a 21-19 victory in the handicap singles against
last year's winner Tom Palmer, although together Steven and Tom (pictured below) were beaten 28-12 in the men's pairs by an on-form John Foster and Roger
Willmott. The ladies pairs was won by Joan Corless and Sue Willmott who defeated Cecelia Woodward and Sue Paterson 21-10 and Sue also picked
up the 100 up title thanks to victory against Carol Watson.
The mixed pairs went to the last end where a virtual front toucher by Margaret Atkins was enough to secure the win for her and partner Dave
Richardson over Shirley Foxwell and Peter Treagus. In the men's 2 wood singles Tom Palmer enjoyed a comfortable 21-8 win against Mick O'Donnell
and in the ladies equivalent competition Carol Watson tasted success by 6 shots, with Janet Hawkins the runner up.
Peter Gacsall was a double winner, firstly beating Willy Bollschweiler in the 'Butfoy' mixed singles and then claiming the men's Backbone
with a 21-12 win against Alan Nicholas.
Stephanie Tuddenham finished strongly in the ladies backbone to beat newly crowned ladies champion Sue Paterson 21-18 and Ken Eldred won
the men's veterans final, defeating Alan Price 21-9. In a new competition Vivienne Jones, Stella Sayers and Audrey Kite claimed the Betty
Mcmillan ladies triples title, 24-16. Thanks go to Sue Paterson and Willy Bollschweiler whose hard work ensured the club competitions ran as
smoothly as ever during the season.

Lindfield added the Border League cup to their Borger League title for the second year running with victory against Newdigate at Popes Mead.
The rink of Peter Gacsall, Norman Sugarhood, Peter Treagus and Terry Hughes dominated their game throughout, opening up a 15-4 lead after 10
ends while Graeme Geddie, Roger Willmott, Tom Palmer and Ian Watson were involved in a tighter battle, trailing 6-10 at 10 ends.
However Watson's rink then picked up a 5 in the second half to edge in to the lead and finished as 21-16 winners and with Hughes's rink
leading 20-10 there was no need for them to play their last end with the result already in the bag – Lindfield claiming the cup with a 41-26
score line.
Lindfield ladies also tasted success by winning the first division of the Nellie Mercer league for the third year running following their
earlier promotion from the second division.
This week sees Lindfield's annual Jubilee Triples being contested every night (except Tuesday 9th) at the club, from 6pm onwards. Teams from over 30 clubs will be competing for a chance to win the prize money, and every evening will see hot dogs on sale, a raffle, and a fully manned (and well stocked) bar. So come along and enjoy some late summer sun, have a drink and watch some bowls! The finals take place at 1pm on Saturday 13th.
Lindfield claimed two county titles on Sunday starting with a hard fought 21-17 singles win for Ian Watson against Eastbourne's Charles Wright
at Bexhill. Watson recovered from an early narrow deficit to lead 10-7 and maintained his lead throughout the second half of the game to clinch
the title and become the first Lindfield bowler to win the county singles title since Doug Whetstone in 1990.
In the county fours final defending champions Graeme Geddie, Adam Harding, Keith Holman and Watson reclaimed their title with victory over
White Rock 21-6. The Lindfield quartet opened up a 13-3 lead and put in a solid performance to force their opposition to concede the game after
only 15 ends.
There was last end heart break for Lindfield though in the double fours final when they suffered an agonising one shot defeat to Preston.
Dave Richardson's rink won the last end to finish 16-20 but Darren Anderson converted a match lie after Tom Palmer had secured the shot for
Lindfield to ensure Preston snatched the title.
In the county triples final Harding, Holman and Watson struggled to find any consistency in the morning session and could have no complaints at
being beaten 21-9 by Preston's Don Kent, Peter Morgan and Adrian Finnie.
Men's captain's day at Lindfield was exceptionally well organized by
Terry and Alison Hughes on Saturday and began with two leagues playing a round robin set of matches to determine the finalists, which were
Lindfield’s Chris Reynolds and Bletchingly's Dave Brooks, with Bletchingly coming out on top 4-2 during the 5 end final. More importantly
though £1000 was raised for the Chestnut Tree House Hospice and a fun day was had by all the players.
In a day of mixed fortunes at Bexhill Bowls Club, Ian Watson beat Charles Wright 21-16 to become the Sussex county singles champion for 2011.
It was a closely fought game, with Charles taking an early lead, only to see Ian overtake him on the longer jacks. In the other finals Watson,
Adam Harding and Keith Holman lost to Preston's Don Kent, Peter Morgan and Adrian Finnie 22-9 in the triples. Preston were also victorious
in the Abergavenny double-fours, beating Lindfield by just a single shot (41-40), with Tom Palmer's rink winning by 3, and Dave Richardson's rink
losing by 4.
There was more good news in the afternoon however, as Graeme Geddie, Harding, Holman and Watson teamed up to successfully defend their county
Fours title, beating White Rock (Nutton, Grimes, Cheetham and Jeapes) 22-7 after 15 ends.
Lindfield won the final of the Tom Francis mixed double fours with victory over defending champions Uckfield at Haywards Heath. The heavy
scoring was done by the rink of Chris Reynolds, Carol Watson, Tom Palmer and Keith Holman who all played exceptionally well to defeat Steve
Perris's rink 32-8. The other game was a tighter affair with Adam Harding, Roger and Sue Willmott and Dave Richardson being edged out 11-13,
although Uckfield conceded the overall match after 18 of the scheduled 21 ends due to the large shot difference on Holman's rink.
Lindfield are also through to the final of the Border League cup, where they'll face either Newdigate or Dorking, thanks to an 11 shot
victory against Redhill in the semi final. The home rink of Willy Bollschweiller, Ken Anderson, Graeme Geddie and Ian Watson were held 18-18
but an impressive 19-8 away win for Peter Gacsall, Norman Sugarhood, Peter Treagus and Terry Hughes gives the club the chance of successfully
defending the title they won last year.
Next week sees the popular Jubilee triples competition take place at Lindfield with cash prizes available for the winners plus team prizes up
for grabs during the initial knock out stages.
Lindfield continued their emphatic run in the county double fours by beating Worthing by 27 shots and seizing a place in the final against
Preston. Both home and away rinks remain unbeaten in the competition although changes will need to be made for the final due to the clubs
other commitments on county finals day.
Against Worthing Peter Treagus, Roger Willmott, Keith Holman and Dave Richardson secured a 9 shot
win against a strong looking team including county triples quarter finalists Brian Dunn, Ken Woodcock and Chris Young and singles semi
finalist John Schools. Meanwhile Graeme Geddie, Terry Hughes, Tom Palmer and Ian Watson took on Dave Hubbard's squad at Worthing and
immediately opened up a 13-3 lead, going on to win by 18 shots to ensure that the club will be contesting four county finals at Bexhill on
August 7th.
The club also progressed in the national double fours thanks to an easier than expected fifth round win against Southwick and are now within
touching distance of reaching the final stages of the competition at Worthing.
On Sunday the annual charity match against the Lindfield village club was staged and following a morning of bowling and a large raffle £400
was raised for charity.
Lindfield comfortably beat Worthing Beach House Park tonight in the semi-final of the mens' county double-fours ("Abergavenny"). Dave Richardson's
home rink got off to a flying 11-1 lead, but were pegged back in the second half of the game by some accurate drawing from Brian Dunne and Ken Woodcock,
however Treagus, Willmott, Holman and Richardson hung on to win 22-13. At Worthing, Ian Watson's quartet played superbly to beat Dave Hubbard's rink
on their own green, eventually winning by 18 shots with 3 ends to spare.
Lindfield now face a selection dilemma for county finals day, with Holman, Watson and possibly Geddie all unavailable for the double-fours final due to their participation
in the other finals finals, so replacements will be sought from the reserves.
Wet weather prevented any play on ladies captain's day at Lindfield but spirits remained high and with the visiting teams all turning up to
support the occasion over £1000 was raised for the British Heart Foundation with raffles and a quiz among the events enjoyed
by the teams.
Ian Watson cruised through to the county singles final with a 21-3 demolition of Dave Welsh and he now plays Eastbourne's Charles Wright in
the final on August 7th. In the county double fours Lindfield secured their place in the semi final against Worthing thanks to 10 shot
victories on both home and away rinks against Popes Mead. Peter Treagus, Roger Willmott, Keith Holman and Dave Richardson maintained their
lead throughout the game while the away rink of Graeme Geddie, Terry Hughes, Tom Palmer and Ian Watson saw off the county four semi finalists
Mick Law, Ted Cousins, Ralph Lonsdale and Mark Jones thanks to a strong second half performance after the scores had been level at the half-way
stage.
In the county triples semi final Adam Harding, Keith Holman and Ian Watson recovered from a 10-0 deficit to record a 19-17 victory against the
White Rock trio of Mick Grimes, Keith Cheetham and Steve Jeapes. With two ends left to play the Lindfield triple trailed 11-17 but two good
take out shots from Watson enabled them to pick up 4 shots on the 17th end and with Cheetham and Jeapes both missing with running bowls on
the final end another count of 4 meant that Lindfield snatched an unlikely win. They now play Preston's Don Kent, Peter Morgan and Adrian
Finnie in the final.
In the Tom Francis semi-final Lindfield saw off the challenge of Popes Mead with comfortable wins on both rinks.
Congratulations to Ian Watson on reaching the finals of the County Singles, Triples and Fours. On Monday evening at Pope's Mead, Ian's triple
(Adam Harding, Keith Holman, and Watson himself) took on White Rock in the form of Mick Grimes, Keith Cheetham and Steve Jeapes. White Rock got
off to a flying start, taking a 10-0 lead, and stayed ahead until the closing ends of the game.
11-17 down going into the 17th end, Ian managed
to take out both White Rock's shot and second bowls, to give Lindfield 4 shots, and set up a thrilling last end, 15-17 on the scoreboard.
The last end was bizarre - all three Lindfield players drew in close to the jack, while the White Rock lead failed to guage the line and length,
leaving Cheetham to fire and miss with all three of his woods. Steve Jeapes took the mat facing a game-changing deficit, and was unable to retrieve
the situation, missing with a firing shot, hitting a short bowl, then swinging wide of the head searching for the drawing line. Lindfield collected
the four winning shots, to win 19-17, and they now face Preston in the final - Don Kent, Peter Morgan, and Adrian Finnie.
Tonight at Rottingdean BC, Ian Watson stormed to an emphatic 21-3 win against Hurstpierpoint's Dave Welsh in the singles semi-final, and now faces
Eastbourne's Charles Wright on 7th August.
Lindfield will be hoping to progress in the mens' County Double Fours (aka "Abergavenny") tomorrow (Wednesday), when they
take on Popes Mead on a home and away basis. The game starts at 6pm, do come along and support our team.
Graeme Geddie, Adam Harding, Keith Holman and Ian Watson beat Mark Jones's Popes Mead rink on Friday evening by a convincing margin, and will now take on Colin Nutton, Mick Grimes, Keith Cheetham and Steve Jeapes in the County Fours Final at Bexhill on Sunday 7th August.
In the men's county fours quarter final Graeme Geddie, Adam Harding, Keith Holman and Ian Watson romped to a remarkable 28-0 win,
with their opposition from Uckfield deciding to call it a day as early as the 10th end. The Lindfield team picked up 3 shots on each of
the first three ends and followed this up with a 5 to open up a 14-0 lead after only four ends.
The scoring pattern continued and
after nine ends the score line was 25-0 in favour of the defending champions thanks to some excellent bowling by all four players.
When another 3 shots were added on end 10 Uckfield conceded defeat and Lindfield now take on the Popes Mead four of Mick Law, Ted Cousins,
Ralph Lonsdale and Mark Jones who were convincing victors over Worthing, with the winners going through not only to the county final
but also the national championships at Worthing's Beech House Park in August.
In the county triples Harding, Holman and Watson recovered from an early 3-12 deficit to beat West Hoathly and qualify for the quarter
final at Popes Mead but Chris Reynolds, Peter Treagus and Dave Richardson missed out on joining them when Preston's Don Kent, Peter Morgan
and Adrian Finnie registered a five shot win against them at Lindfield.
Lindfield are also through to the quarter final of the county double fours thanks to wins on both rinks against Brighton and it was a
similar story in the second round of the Tom Francis double fours when Lindfield recorded a 24 shot victory against Hurstpierpoint.
This week the club is playing host to what should be several absorbing and important matches. Tomorrow (Monday 27th) sees two of our Mens'
County Triples teams playing in the area final, one round before the county-wide quarter finals. Chris Reynolds, Peter Treagus and Dave Richardson
take on Preston's Peter Morgan, Adrian Finnie and Don Kent, while Adam Harding, Keith Holman and Ian Watson take on West Hoathly's team lead by
Trevor Swainson. Both games start at 6pm.
Update: Harding, Holman and Watson won + 10. Reynolds, Treagus and Richardson lost - 7.
On Wednesday 29th (6pm), Lindfield line up against Brighton in the Abergavenny (county double fours), and will be striving to improve on last year's encounter,
which saw Lindfield scrape through by the narrowest of margins against the oldest club in the Brighton & Hove area.
Update: Lindfield won on both rinks: Ian Watson's rink +4, Dave Richardson's rink +7.
On Friday 1st July we are hosting the Quarter-Finals of the Mens' County Fours competition, starting at 6pm. Lindfield's own quartet of Graeme Geddie,
Adam Harding, Keith Holman and Ian Watson (who won the Fours last year) have been drawn to play against Steve Perris's team from Uckfield.
Update: Ian Watson's Lindfield rink beat Uckfield 28-0 after 10 ends in their quarter-final.
The bar will be open for all these games, and the players always appreciate some home support, so if you've got nothing else planned, do pop
along and enjoy what should be some fantastic games of bowls.
In the ladies top club event Lindfield won an epic clash with local rivals Haywards Heath with the tie having to be decided by the pairs,
triples and fours all having to play an extra end. Carol Watson racked up an impressive 21-5 win in the singles and Shirley Nelson and Sue
Willmott won the pairs 19-16 but these results were cancelled out when the triples and fours lost by the same overall shot difference,
but Lindfield then won the extra end in each of the three team events to secure their passage to the next round.
Ian Watson is through to the county singles quarter final after a hard fought 21-15 win against Preston's Dave Bibby but Keith Holman just
failed to join him after losing a final end shoot out to Mackie's Dave Moses when the scores were tied at 20-20.
Graeme Geddie and Tom Palmer's challenge in the county pairs came to end in the fifth round after they slipped to a 22-14 defeat to Dave
Beard and Tony Grainger and the damage was done early on with the West Hoathly pair opening up a 9-1 lead. Geddie, Adam Harding, Holman and
Watson defeated Adrian Finnie's Preston team 25-16 in the county fours and now play Uckfield in the quarter final on Friday.
In the national double fours Lindfield came through a difficult looking tie away at Preston, winning on both rinks by an overall 15 shots although
there was mixed fortunes in the clubs league fixtures with both the John Spriggs and Mid Sussex teams losing their matches to St Francis and
West Hoathly respectively and also a narrow defeat in the Nicholas Soames away at Popes Mead, although the Border League squad got their campaign
back on track thanks to victory at Popes Mead.
In the first round of the Tom Francis (mixed) double fours Lindfield thumped St Francis by a remarkable score line of 70-16.
The ladies won a very exciting game yesterday against Haywards Heath in the national Top Club competition. After all games were played
Lindfield and Haywards Heath were level on shots, so extra ends were played on three rinks in the pairs, triples and fours, and Lindfield
managed to win all three. Carol Watson had a wonderful game winning 21-5, Sue Willmott and Shirley Nelson won 19-16 in the pairs.
In the triples Stella Wellum, Meta Orchin and Chris Sugarhood lost on the last end 16-17, and in the fours Joan Corless, Sue Patterson,
Dorothy Keogh and Shirley Foxwell lost 9-27 making the score even at 18 all.
News just in - Lindfield Mens' National Double Fours team beat Preston (away) on both rinks this morning, to progress to the 5th round.
Congratulations to Ian Watson on reaching the quarter-final of the Mens' County Singles, after beating Preston's David Bibby. Keith Holman just missed out on joining Ian at the 'whites' stage, when he lost 21-20 to Mackie's Dave Moses.
Graeme Geddie and Tom Palmer are one game away from a county pairs quarter-final, following a hard fought victory against Woodingdean's Joe Smith
and Bob Gooding, finally prevailing 18-13. In the county fours Geddie, Adam Harding, Keith Holman and Ian Watson knocked out Gooding's squad
17-5 to leave them one win away from a quarter final at Lindfield on July 1st.
Watson and Holman are also still going strong in the county singles following away wins at Preston and Woodingdean and having avoided each other in
the fourth round draw they could both now qualify for the quarter finals with victory in their next match. The club also progressed in the county
double fours first round with comfortable wins on both rinks against Uckfield and in the Border League cup first round a one shot win on both the
home and away rinks was just enough to see off the challenge of Monotype.
Lindfield ladies slipped to an overall 5 shot defeat in their double rink encounter against Eastbourne Saffrons when the 4 shot win by the
home rink of Chris Sugarhood, Dorothy Keogh, Carol Watson and Stella Wellum was wiped out by an 8 shot away defeat at a windy Eastbourne.
Graeme Geddie and Tom Palmer are the club's last survivors in the men's county pairs following their victory at Preston last Thursday, and
they now have a home tie against Woodingdean. In the third round of the singles Ian Watson and Peter Treagus both face an away match at
Preston and Keith Holman travels to Woodingdean to play John Laker.
In the National Double Fours Lindfield overcame West Hoathly thanks to a convincing 30-13 win for the rink of Geddie, Watson, Palmer and Holman
and they now take on Preston in the next round. Watson and Geddie both represented Sussex in the Middleton Cup match against Hampshire at
the weekend and were on one of the county's two winning rinks and Geddie was also in the county's double rink squad that played the Isle of
Wight on Sunday.
Shirley Nelson, Sue Patterson, Celia Woodward and Sue Willmott recovered from an 8 shot deficit to win their second round match of the
Gladys Roland competition against Worthing but in the ladies county pairs last years finalists Carol Watson and Willmott lost out in the
second round when Ringmer's Pat Escott trailed the jack on the last end to pick up 3 shots when her team had been trailing 17-16.
In the Top Club event the ladies earned victory against St Francis thanks to two wins out of four and a superior overall shot difference.
Lindfield Bowls Club played an active part in the village day on Saturday with its own stall consisting of target bowls and club members
on hand to offer help and advice. The club was also open for anyone who wanted to give the game a try and consider possible membership.
Thanks go to those members who gave up their time to help organise and run the event on the day, including Alan Price, Dee Gardner and
Geoff Nelson.
In the men's county singles Ian Watson and Peter Treagus enjoyed comfortable second round wins and Dave Richardson won the all-Lindfield
battle when he knocked out Tom Palmer 21-13. In the pairs Graeme Geddie and Tom Palmer picked up two shots to force an extra end against
Balcombe and then duly won the extra end to set up a third round match away at Preston.
Norman Sugarhood and Geoff Nelson had another tight game, this time against East Grinstead finally winning by a couple of shots.
In the county fours Chris Reynolds, Roger Willmott, Peter Treagus and Dave Richardson led for most of the game against Buxted before
claiming a 3 shot win, and in the Mid-Sussex mixed fours Ronnie Leaney, Jennie Holland, Peter Treagus and Chris Reynolds went away to
Petworth's artificial carpet and came away with a first round win.
On Friday 10th June the club are hosting an open evening from 6pm as a follow-up to their village day introduction for anyone who would like
to find out more about the club and the game.
In the ladies national over 55 pairs Chris Sugarhood & Carol Watson won through to the third round following victory over Rottingdean
and the club also has a team in the quarter final of the county triples thanks to Jean Spooner, Carol Watson and Stella Wellum defeating
Crouch 16-9.
In the ladies Top Club competition Lindfield emerged victorious against Newick following a 21-6 win for Carol Watson in the singles,
a 25-17 pair's victory for Shirley Nelson and Sue Willmott and a convincing triples success for Chris Sugarhood, Jean Spooner and Stella Wellum.
The ladies also made progress in the double rink knockout with an overall 19 shot win against Haywards Heath.
In the men's national double fours Lindfield 'A' came through a tricky away tie at Uckfield when they battled to a 9 shot win on each rink
and in the county pairs it took an extra end to separate the Lindfield teams of Roger Willmott & Mick O'Donnell and Norman Sugarhood &
Geoff Nelson but Norman's front toucher earned his team a passage to the second round.
Bryan Mills got off to a good start in the unbadged singles when he beat last year's quarter finalist Mick O'Donnell 21-17 and in the
main county singles Dave Richardson and Tom Palmer will go head to head this week after they both won their preliminary matches.
In the county triples Steven Bollschweiler, Roger Willmott and Mick O'Donnell beat Woodingdean's Dave Billings 20-16 and now face another
Woodingdean triple in the next round on Monday (June 6th).
Lindfield men slipped out of two national competitions this week at the second round stage. The 'B' side lost out to West Hoathly in the
national double fours despite opening up a comfortable lead early on and in the Top Club a keenly fought encounter against Preston ended
in a disappointing 3-2 defeat.
Dave Richardson scored an impressive 17-7 win in the 2 bowl singles against previous county singles champion Andy Smalldridge but Darren
Anderson levelled the tie when he pulled back an early deficit in the four bowl singles to win 21-13.
The pair's was a one sided encounter which went the way of Preston's Adrian Finnie and Dennis Alderton but Lindfield won the fours by six
shots to temporarily level the match, although Don Kent, Steve Jones and Peter Morgan then wrapped up an eight shot win in the triples to
end Lindfield's interest in the competition. It's the third year running the club have failed to make it past the second round.
There was better news in the national over 55 pair's with Graeme Geddie and Keith Holman winning at Preston and Peter Gacsall and Ian Watson
winning at Mackie.
In the ladies county fours the rinks skipped by Stella Wellum and Sue Willmott both won their second round matches
against Hampden Park and Eastbourne Saffrons respectively but then both team went out in the next game to Felbridge and Newhaven in two
closely fought games. In the Gladys Roland the team of Shirley Nelson, Sue Patterson, Celia Woodward and Sue Willmott had a convincing 30-8
win against Burgess Hill and Shirley and Sue also teamed up to register a 20-13 victory in the over 55 pairs against Uckfield.
There was disappointment for Lindfield mens' Top Club team as they lost 3-2 at home to Preston yesterday (Friday 20th). Dave Richardson got
Lindfield off to a flying start, beating Andy Smalldridge 17-7 in the Two Wood singles. Peter Treagus reached 11-11 against Darren Anderson,
then Darren broke away and bowled superbly to win 21-13, putting the points level at 1-1.
With Ian Watson's four always in front, and the pairing of Chris Reynolds and Keith Holman struggling to hang on to any shots, it was Terry Hughes's
triple who had the crucial game. From a position of 10-6 ahead they saw their advantage slip away through a succession of fine bowls from Don Kent
and Peter Morgan, and eventually they conceded the game at 17-11 down with and end to play.
Lindfield ladies have had a successful start to their competitive season with wins for Shirley Nelson and Sue Willmott in the National Over 55
Pairs against West Hoathly and two teams winning their first round matches in the County Fours, although the team of Stella Wellum, Chris Wilson,
Dorothy Keogh and Jean Spooner did it the hard way by picking up 7 shots on the last end against Polegrove to force a tie and then scoring the
winning shot on the extra end.
In the men's National Double Fours Lindfield "A" recovered from a slightly slow start to register a comfortable 32 shot win against Woodingdean
and the "B" side scored a noticeable win against some familiar faces from Mackie winning by 3 shots overall.
On Friday 20th Lindfield take on Preston at home in the second round of the national Top Club competition which could well be the first
competitive encounter of many between the clubs during the season.
Having beaten Peacehaven in the first round of the Top Club, both Lindfield men's "A" and "B" National Double Fours teams enjoyed wins on Friday evening, against
Woodingdean "A" and Mackie "B" respectively. The two results could not have been more different however, with the revised "A" team returning two
heavily one-sided winning cards, but the "B" team just scraped past Mackie by a couple of shots.
Peter Gacsall dropped out at the last minute with tendonitis, which meant that Chris Reynolds played lead in his place, and former mens' captain
Alan Nicholas slotted in at 2 to Keith Holman, and played a very steady drawing game on a surprisingly fast Lindfield green.
Terry Hughes's rink lost by a handful of shots to John Deacon's team, but Mick O'Donnell's rink were ahead throughout their game, and their six-shot
win against Dave Woosnam's rink ensured an overall victory for the "B" team.
This has now become a very competitive Australian Pairs competition. Sixteen teams have entered and it will be played in four leagues.
Lindfield have been drawn against Popes Mead, Felbridge "A" and Uckfield"A" teams. Six matches in total: three home, three away.
This will be followed by a semi-final (top team each league), and a final.
For each match we need three ladies and three men. Please sign at the club if you would be interested in playing, or let Carol Watson know.
Just a reminder that the new season starts this Saturday 23rd April, the green will be open from 10am onwards.
The annual pre-season meeting is Thursday 21st at 7:30 in the King Edward Hall, and is a last chance to pay your annual fees, and sign up for
the internal club competitions - please come along armed with your cheque books!
Lindfield's Chris Sugarhood (representing Grattons) today won the Sussex County Womens' Indoor Bowling Association (SCWIBA) Unbadged singles title, after a tough contest against
Eastbourne's Irene Baker. There was little to separate the two ladies for much of the game, until Chris sent up a short jack, and she adjusted
to the new length more readily than her opponent, allowing her to break away and win 21-14.
Chris was awarded her indoor County badge in recognition of her achievement, and there was a second cause for celebration as Lindfield's Celia
Woodward also earned her County badge, having reached the semi-final of the same competition. Well done ladies!
Lindfield's Adam Harding and Dave Richardson, representing the Grattons indoor club, have won the Sussex County Indoor Bowling Association
Mens' Pairs for the second year running. Playing at Preston, they beat Falaise's Charles Wright and Aaron Sexton in a gripping finale, eventually
prevailing 17-15 winners, despite Aaron killing the last end twice in an attempt to reverse the result. The county win came just a day after Adam
and Dave teamed up to win the Grattons Mens' Pairs for the third year running, beating Ted Cousins and Mick Law in a one-sided encounter.
At Wealden's finals weekend, Lindfield's Tom Palmer was on the winning team in the Mens' Fours, beating Lindfield's Peter Colbourne, Chris Thomas, and
two other players in a closely fought game, that saw Tom's team win by just 4 shots.
