Border League

Pre-campaign briefing from team captain Alan Gardiner

Alan Gardiner Last season Lindfield were relegated from Division 1 of the League so for the first time we are faced with a season in Division Two, or at least I am hoping it is just one season!
As it is a competitive league promotion must be our first objective but our longer term aims must be to re-establish Lindfield as one of the leading teams in this League and hopefully recovering the winning ways of our Border League history. Furthermore I would like to develop a good team spirit (something which was very evident amongst the winning Border League teams of last season) and above all for us all to enjoy the experience.

To achieve these aims we need a good mix of our club's more experienced players and some less experienced players who want to improve their bowling by playing in competitive matches. Matches are always played in a good spirit and afterwards there is always opportunity to chat with old and new friends from other clubs over some good food and maybe a drink or two. I would encourage you all please to put your names forward on the Availability Sheets in the Changing Room. I cannot promise everyone that they will be selected but all names will be considered to ensure hopefully that we can develop a regular set of players to achieve our objectives.

Update 28th May:
Lindfield were drawn against Horley in the first round of the Border League cup, a big challenge as Horley won Division 1 of the league last year and were also finalists in the Cup. Both Home and Away matches were pretty close throughout but Lindfield emerged as winners in both matches with an aggregate score of 31-22. The Home team of David Glossop, Chris Reynolds, Alan Eastwood and Willy Bollschweiler winning 14-11 and the Away team of Terry Hughes, Alan Gardiner, Roger Willmott and Peter Gacsall winning 17-11 having trailed 9-5 at one point but winning 8 of the last 9 ends to secure the victory. We are now due to play either Horsham or Godstone on Sunday July 2nd.

This result I believe is a big boost for our club in this year's league competition and hopefully can help build the confidence needed to take ourselves back to Division 1. Our first match will be with us shortly on June 8th so please do not forget to get your names down on the Availability Sheets at the club. We are still about 3 players short I believe so more players are definitely required.
